Two people escaped from a burning car in Halden

At 00.20 on Tuesday night, the East police district reported that a car was on fire heavily on county road 21 – Aremarkveien in Halden at the junction with Brekkeveien.

The car fire caused the road to be completely blocked. The police were on the scene together with the fire brigade, who ensured that the fire was extinguished.

Task leader Terje Bustad in the East police district reported just before 00.30 last night that there were two people in the car, both in their 20s from Halden, and that they had evacuated themselves and were unharmed. He states that the passenger had inhaled some smoke, and was taken to the emergency department for a check-up.

Just before 01:00, the car, an older model, was removed from the road.

– Based on the explanation from the car driver and passenger, the fire probably has a technical cause. They came driving from Halden towards Aremark, observed smoke from the engine compartment, got out and opened the bonnet and saw flames. The fire service was then called, the task manager informs, adding that the police have opened a routine case.
