– We know that Norway needs more renewable energy, and more networks, if we are to be able to achieve our ambitions and climate commitments. The new industries that want to live in the future must run on clean energy, and Renewable Norway represents the companies that facilitate a zero-emissions society, says Syvertsen.

Syvertsen is impressed by what Åslaug Haga has achieved in a short time as CEO of Fornybar Norge, after the organizations Energi Norge and Norwea merged in January 2023.

Power, industry, jobs and climate
– Renewable Norway is a clear and competent voice that actively participates in the debate about what is needed for Norway to succeed with the green shift. I look forward to contributing to the further development of Renewable Norway in the future, says Syvertsen, who uses the opportunity to thank the outgoing chairman, Finn Bjørn Ruyter, for his good efforts.

Syvertsen acknowledges that he is taking over as chairman of an organization that represents an industry with reputational challenges. He believes that the industry must take its share of the responsibility that it has become this way.

– The power industry and industry live in a shared destiny, which is important for competitiveness, jobs and the climate. The industry cannot grow without removing emissions, and it cannot remove emissions without more renewable power, says Syvertsen, and adds:

– This connection between power, industry, jobs and climate is important for the power industry, the industry, politicians and most people to understand. It is our responsibility to bring out this connection.

Industry with great potential
Syvertsen believes that Norway as a nation has very good prerequisites for succeeding with new green industry and producing more power.

– We have over 100 years of experience in developing a renewable power system that has resulted in world-leading industries and laid the foundation for the Norwegian welfare society. Looking towards the next 100 years, we know that the power we produce must be clean, the industry must have zero emissions, and we must build new industry that supplies products that the world needs more of in the transition to carry out a green shift. If we manage to do that, we will lay the foundations for further growth and development in Norwegian business. If we fail, we risk the deindustrialisation of Norway, concludes Syvertsen.
