During the annual Hold Norge Clean conference, Gullklypa winner Ina Giske received a check for NOK 50,000 from Ragn-Sells and Gullklypa’s beautiful walking trophy, which was made in collaboration with Norwegian Trash and students from Oslo School of Architecture. The award was presented by the county mayor of Vestland, Jon Askeland.

Here is the jury’s reasoning:

“Since 2017, Ina has worked with communication, knowledge sharing and clean-up of marine litter. She is well known in the local environment at Sunnmøre and is an inspiration to others through the work she puts in for a litter-free nature.

Ina has a special commitment to communication for children and young people, and in 2019 she published the children’s book “Seahorse Hippo and plastic in the sea”. The book will motivate children and parents to take care of the sea and become aware of the littering problem. Ina likes to take the seahorse Hippo with her on clean-up campaigns to create activity and commitment.

In addition to communication through her writing, Ina can always be found at clean-up campaigns. Together with other cleaners, family and alone with her dogs, Ina has cleaned thousands of kilos of rubbish in recent years. Ina has a unique ability to communicate with children and young people, but she is also a central contributor to Nettverk Marin Forsøpling Møre og Romsdal, which is an arena for cooperation against littering. Ina’s work is also noticed, and she is constantly seen in both social and traditional media.”

The jury concludes its reasoning by concluding that on the basis of an impressive, genuine and faithful effort with voluntary clean-up, Ina receives the Gullklypa 2023.

It was a clearly moved winner who declared in her acceptance speech on stage that she cleans with her heart. Giske also thanked volunteers all over the country who stand up every day.

– It’s not our trash, but it’s our globe. I am passionate about the sea and nature, and work every day to engage all generations so that we can stand together to reach the goal, explained a proud winner from the stage.

Ina was one of five finalists chosen from 52 submitted proposals. The jury consisted of Christina Koch (Naturvernforbundet Troms og Finnmark/Vårt Hav), Kari Bunes (board of Hold Norway Clean/Packaging Association) and last year’s Gullklypa winner Ruben Oddekalv (Norwegian Environment Protection Association).
