Torkil Dokk, field advisor in Hol municipality, tells the newspaper that he received a message on Saturday that the moose must have died. When he went out to the moose, it was still alive – but in very bad shape.

– I was away and could touch her. She lay completely still, says Dokk to Hallingdølen.

– Oh, it wasn’t brown

– Very sad

It was therefore quickly decided that the moose had to be killed. It should not have had any signs of injuries, wounds or fractures, but it was emaciated. According to Dokk, it is not unusual for lean animals to die at this time, as they use much of their reserves to get through the winter – in addition to the fact that the pasture is still poor.

The elk was around a year and a half old, says the field advisor to Hallingdølen.

Nature photographer Thomas Mørch took several photos of the moose in December. When Dagbladet picks up the thread and reports that the moose had to be euthanized at the weekend, he describes it as very sad.

He tells of a special meeting with the moose this winter.

– It seemed very trusting, and was not as shy – as moose often are, he says to Dagbladet.

– Very excited about it

He was very fascinated by the moose’s appearance, and says that a picture of it has been hung up in the living room.

– In any case, it’s a good memory to have, he says.

When he met the moose last winter, it seemed to be in good shape. But he was sent a video of the moose a month ago, where you could see that it had lost weight.

– I was very surprised that it had become much thinner. But it is sad that it had to be killed, he says.

The elk had leukism, a condition which, like albinism, also causes a lack of pigment in the skin or fur.
