A man has been sent to hospital with unknown extent of damage after being pulled from the water at Sjursøya in Oslo.
Wednesday 3 April at 03:34The person was conscious and received the necessary first aid, the police write in a report.
– The police helicopter is assisting in the search for possibly more people in the water, but the police do not have information to indicate this at the moment.
Task leader Brian Skotnes tells VG’s freelancer at the scene that it was the fire service that rescued the man.
– He was severely chilled, and was conscious, but not talking.
– This is a closed area, so it was important to find out who he was and how he got here. We couldn’t figure that out.
– We have had major challenges in gaining access to the facility here, it is a problem for fire, police and health. It delayed our efforts. It could be critical. Fortunately, a fire boat drove in and picked him up, says Skotnes, who praises the efforts of the emergency services.
Operations manager Øyvind Schalla-Aasen says it is unclear how the person ended up in the water. He confirms when VG asks that this is a closed port area that is not open to the public.
– We do not know who the person is, or whether the person worked there, but there is nothing about the clothing to indicate such a thing.
He says it appears the man had been in the water for a while.
Schalla-Aasen says the police were alerted by the fire service, which had received a message from a worker on site. He says there is nothing to indicate that more people are in the water, but that searches are still being carried out to clarify this.
At 02.30 the police report that the search for several people has ended.
