– We got a bit of a shock, what do we do now?
Signe Louise Løvlid Hole thought so when she saw what had happened.
She is vice-president of the Russian section at Horten high school and one of 28 girls on “Racerbuss”.
The girls didn’t have time to dance long before they discovered that one of the signs on their bus was missing.
Angry
– We couldn’t do much other than try to have fun and look out for the other sign.
The girls think other Russians are behind the theft.
– If I had been younger, I would not have dared to do something like that, and the older generations know how much time and work is involved in the Russian era. So I reckon it’s drug addiction.
Hole realizes that the license plate thief will not report.
– We are angry and frustrated. If I had known who it was, I would have put the person in their place a bit.
A teacher to the rescue
The girls contacted the police and the National Roads Administration to obtain test plates. It would turn out to be easier said than done.
– Only the driver can sit on the bus with test plates, explains Holte.
Therefore, two new signs had to be ordered, and they will only arrive in two to five days.
– Then we are required to involuntarily store cars, which is very awkward.
To be able to roll in the coming days, the happy gang got help from a teacher at the school.
– He went to the workshop at school and cut out two metal sheets which we painted and inked on. We are very glad that he helped us!
Now the girls are crossing their fingers that the license plate thief will not return.
Rare sight
A boys’ bus from Holmestrand also had its plates stolen at the same meeting.
This is the first time that license plate thefts from Russian buses in the area have been reported.
– I have experienced people tampering with each other’s engines, it can be very dangerous. But I’ve never seen someone take signs before, says police superintendent Henning Ø. Johansen in the South-East police district.
Most reviews about the Russians are usually disturbances.
That the Russian can make a lot of noise can Signe Louise Løvlid Hole understand. At the same time, she calls for a suitable place where the buses can gather.
– We experience being chased a bit by the police, and feel we are not welcome anywhere.
As a result, the open gravel area at Grenlandporten has become a regular meeting place.
– We have been there almost every night now, concludes Hole.
