The reason is the work on Ring 1, and the rebuilding of the Hammersborg Tunnel and upgrading of the Vaterlands Tunnel.

According to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, this will lead to increased traffic on the road network. Public transport must therefore be prioritized.

Too many electric cars during rush hour

– Electric cars have been able to drive in public transport lanes during rush hour when there are two or more people in the car. This advantage is now removed due to the accessibility of the buses.

That’s what project manager for traffic, in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Halvard Gavelstad says.

He believes that the proportion of electric cars in public transport lanes is so large during rush hour that the buses are significantly delayed.

The ban will apply from 6-7. May on national and European roads in Oslo and Akershus. This also applies to the municipal roads in Oslo.

– We encourage those who can to leave the car and instead travel by public transport, cycle or walk, says Gavelstad.

Signage and information

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration will sign Ring 1 closed on all main roads towards the city centre.

In addition, free text boards are used to further inform motorists.

– Good signage and information should help to ensure that fewer people drive incorrectly and have to turn around in the city centre, writes the Norwegian Public Roads Administration in a press release.
