Dorthe Skappel, Divorce | Dorthe Skappel opens up: Ran away after the divorce

Program presenter Dorthe Skappel (55) has been watching “Good evening Norway” on the TV screen for several years. Recently, she also took over as presenter for the popular TV 2 program “Farmen kjendis”.

On Wednesday morning, she was a guest on the podcast, “My child’s upbringing”, where she opens up to presenter Solveig Kloppen (52) about her parents’ divorce in her childhood.

When Skappel was only 17 years old, his parents divorced, and the presenter’s mother moved out of his childhood home.

– I saw for a long time that my parents were not doing well, I saw that they were struggling, and I thought that was painful, says the 55-year-old in the podcast episode.

Ran away to her boyfriend

While Skappel’s parents went their separate ways, the then 17-year-old saw the rescue. She decided to move in with the mother of her then boyfriend, and current husband, Jon Skappel.

– Mum cried a lot during the divorce process, and there was no way to comfort her. So when I had the opportunity to escape from it, I did. It was liberating to not have to deal with it, says Skappel in the podcast episode.

Furthermore, the TV profile says that the divorce became much easier to handle after she moved in with her boyfriend’s family. Skappel says that she was welcomed with open arms by Jon’s mum, and describes her as an incredibly wise lady.

Nettavisen has tried to get a comment from Dorthe Skappel, so far without success.

Didn’t get to know anything

Skappel says in the episode that her parents were very different, and that her father came from a much more conservative home.

– Back then, I think my father wanted a stay-at-home housewife. My mother was more of a free spirit who wanted to go out and flourish, make her own money, and in a way I think my father maybe tried to keep it down a bit. I can imagine that it was one of the reasons why there was a divorce, although I can’t know anything for sure, says Skappel in the episode.

Despite the fact that the parents had challenges in their marriage, Skappel hardly knew anything about the problems that were going on between mother and father.

Skappel believes that such challenges should not be hidden from the children, as children often notice more than we assume. In the episode, she emphasizes the importance of honesty, and that it’s okay to admit that not everything is always easy, but that this must be done in moderation.
