PC Falls to USC Upstate

CLINTON, SC – The Presbyterian College Blue Hose baseball team (21-22, BSC: 11-6) fell to the USC Upstate Spartans (28-15, BSC: 13-4) with a score of 5-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

– After two scoreless innings, Eli Lazio got things going for PC with a 101-mph home run down the left field line, securing the Blue Hose their first run of the day.
– Upstate wasted no time in answering, scoring two runs in the top of the fourth inning to take their first lead of the day with a score of 2-1.
– In the bottom of the fifth inning, Lazio crushed a powerful single down the left field line before advancing to second on a fielding error. Following that, Jack Gorman executed a sacrifice bunt, moving Lazio to third base. Brody Fahr’s RBI single to left field then brought Lazio home for his second run of the day, leveling the score at two runs apiece.
– The Spartans broke the tie with three runs in the top of the seventh inning, making the score 5-2 in their favor.
– Presbyterian was able to load the bases and pick up another run in the bottom of the ninth, but in the end Upstate took a 5-3 victory in the second game of the series.

NOTABLES

Charlie McDaniel made his 52nd start on the mound for the Blue Hose today, a milestone that ties him for the most starts ever by a pitcher at Presbyterian College.
Eli Lazio’s home run in the third inning marked his second of the season.
