In the first quarter of 2024, the Canary Islands set a record for the number of tourists visiting the island, reports Canarian Weekly.

According to the newspaper, there are 611,000 more tourists, which is 14 per cent higher than the same period last year.

– It is expected that the flow of tourists will level off throughout the year, and that the number of foreign tourists will increase by a total of eight percent in 2024, writes the newspaper.

Back in January, it was reported that the Canary Islands had never had as many visitors as in 2023.

The airports on the archipelago had 48,436,168 million passengers in 2023, which was an increase of 11.4 per cent from 2022.

It was the airport on Gran Canaria that had the most passengers with 13,961,638 million. This was an increase of 12.4 per cent from 2022.

The remaining podium places were Reina Sofía airport on Tenerife with 12,337,244 passengers and Lanzarote airport with 8,212,943 passengers.
