– One of our representatives in the national assembly was involved in an incident in Helsinki, confirms Sannfinnen’s party secretary Harri Vuorenpaa on X.

According to the newspaper Seiska, two representatives in the national assembly were out on the town on Friday evening, and one of them fired a shot with a weapon when he left the Bar Ihku nightclub.

Several Finnish media write that Timo Vornanen has been arrested, suspected of threatening behavior and breaching the weapons law.

Sannfinnen’s party leader Riikka Purra describes the incident outside the nightclub as “serious and with major consequences” to the broadcaster Yle.

Vornanen has a background in the police and, according to his own website, is a keen hunter. The circumstances surrounding the incident on Friday night are not known.

The true Finns are in government, together with the Unity Party in Finland.

The party has previously been in trouble, for example after it was revealed that several key politicians had previously made strongly racist statements on social media. Among them was Purra.

Industry Minister Vilhelm Junnila had to resign after accusations of contact with neo-Nazis and other right-wing extremists.
