Pasco Shikishima Corp produces a range of baked goods, including bread. Now they are withdrawing 104,000 bread packets from the market all over Japan, as the remains of a dead rat have been found in at least two of the loaves, reports Sky News.

The rat was found in two of the manufacturer’s fleeces.

The company is now apologizing to the buyers of the bread and saying it will compensate them for the incident.

– We sincerely apologize for the serious inconvenience and problems this has caused for our customers, suppliers and other affected parties, says a representative for the company to NBC News.

Pasco Shikishima Corp has also issued a separate statement that it will do its utmost to strengthen quality controls so that a similar incident does not happen again.

The representative for the company tells NBC News that it was parts of a small black rat that were found in the fleeces.

Two complaints

Japanese media reports that at least two people who bought the bread in Gunma Prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, complained to the company about finding rat remains in the bread.

The company informs that they have not received any new complaints from other consumers about findings in the bread, after the first two inquiries.

They also make rolls, bagels and muffins.

The recalled Loff type has been sold in various areas such as Ibaraki, Niigata, Kanagawa, Fukushima, Aomori and Tokyo.

Now they have issued a press release in which they apologize, and urge the buyers of the bread to return it to the shop where it was bought, or to throw it away.
