17-year-old Maja is believed to have been killed after she disappeared on 14 March. Now the Swedish public prosecutor’s office states that they assume that she died on the same day that she disappeared.

The assumption is based on a preliminary autopsy report, reports local newspaper Borås Tidning.

A boy of the same age is suspected of having killed Maja. Now the suspicion against him is strengthened.

– There is a lot of material to be analysed, and many more interviews are to be held, says the prosecutor in the case, Nina Friman Björk, to the local newspaper.

Breakthrough

The teenage girl was last seen when she left school in Marks municipality at 2.30pm on Thursday 14 March. The following Monday, she was found dead at the edge of the water just minutes away from the school.

A boy of the same age has been arrested and suspected of having killed Maja in Västergötland in Sweden.

The breakthrough in the search for the missing girl came after an initial interview with the boy, who is now suspected of murder, when he told about a “secret place”, writes Swedish Expressen.

Maja was last seen with the arrested boy, who was initially suspected of abduction.

Criticism

Only four days later did the police begin to investigate the case as a kidnapping, which was later changed to a murder investigation.

The police have been criticized for this afterwards.

– I understand that there are quite a few questions about what the police did from the time the report was received on Thursday until Monday, says head of the Swedish special unit, Peter Sörstedt, in a statement.

Sörstedt emphasizes that these days the police worked on various types of information gathering in connection with the case – but that no active search was carried out for the 17-year-old.
