The media giant Rupert Murdoch has proposed to his girlfriend Ann Lesley Smith (66) and has been accepted.

Ann Lesley Smith is the widow of country artist and TV personality Chester Smith, who died of heart failure in 2008, aged 78. She previously worked as a police chaplain in San Francisco.
– This is a gift to God from both of us, says Smith about the engagement.

She also confides that they met in September last year.
– I have been a widow for 14 years. Like Rupert, my husband was a businessman, says the 66-year-old, pointing out that her late husband helped build several radio and television stations.
– So I speak Rupert’s language. We share the same attitudes, she believes.
Now they are planning a wedding in late summer.
– We both look forward to spending the last half of our lives with each other, says Murdoch.

Murdoch has previously been married to Wendi Deng from 1999 to 2014, Anna Maria Torv from 1967 to 1999, and Patricia Booker from 1956 to 1965. He has six grown children from previous relationships.
The 92-year-old also owns media such as Fox News, The Times of London and The Wall Street Journal. According to the financial magazine Forbes, he had a fortune of almost NOK 180 billion last year.
In 1968, Murdoch secured ownership of the News of The World newspaper, but this was closed down in 2011 after it became clear that the newspaper’s employees may have been behind phone hacking of up to 4,000 phones.
