The Finnish prime minister, Sanna Marin, has received massive attention in recent days after party videos from the prime minister’s residence were leaked, showing Marin and her friends enjoying themselves with music and alcohol.
The reactions afterwards have been massive – and divided.
One of those who surprisingly takes the head of state in defense is goalkeeper legend Peter Schmeichel (58).
According to the Finnish newspaper Iltalehti, the Dane spoke during a TV session with Finnish Viaplay, in connection with the big match between Manchester United and Liverpool on Monday.
It all started when he was asked about Cristiano Ronaldo.
– What about Ronaldo? I love Ronaldo, Schmeichel said, before changing the subject.
– I also love your prime minister. She is cool. There has been a lot of negative talk about the pictures, but as a Dane I don’t understand the criticism. She’s just having a little fun. What’s wrong with that, he asked.
After the party videos became public, Marin agreed to take a drug test – it came back negative. The next day she again had to respond to new party photos that had reached the public.
It shows two women kissing as they pull up the top – the whole thing apparently captured in the TV studio of the prime minister’s residence, where Marin holds his official press conferences.
A “Finland” prop is strategically held up in front of the women’s breasts, and people sing and sway in the background. Marin himself does not appear in the video.
– I don’t think the picture is appropriate, and apologize for it, said the social democratic prime minister at a press conference in Helsinki on Tuesday, according to Ilta-Sanomat.
