The police see no signs of crime – NRK Vestfold and Telemark – Local news, TV and radio

The dead man was found by volunteer search crews in Meierelva.

On Friday morning, the police say they believe the dead man is the 35-year-old who was reported missing in Holmestrand.

Harmful rumor flood

After the man was last seen on Saturday afternoon, there has been a flood of rumors about what happened.

– The flood of rumours probably creates the greatest challenges for the next of kin, who receive a lot of information in various channels. It’s never anything particularly auspicious. For the investigation, it will not be particularly problematic in this case, police inspector Odd Skei Kostveit tells NRK.

Awaiting autopsy report

A preliminary investigation indicates that he has not been exposed to anything criminal. We can say that based on a preliminary survey that has been carried out here locally, says Kostveit.

The body has been sent to the Forensic Institute in Oslo for an autopsy. The preliminary report will be ready on Friday afternoon at the earliest.

– The report will be able to establish the identity of the man. It will also describe any injuries to the deceased. And possible cause of death. We will have to wait until it arrives before we are more concrete about it, says Kostveit.

Kostveit says the police are working on several possible hypotheses.

The police have carried out investigations both at the address where the man was visiting and around the discovery site in Meierelva.

Kostveit says that no findings have been made that indicate that anything criminal has happened.

Still want tips

The focus now is to get as much information as possible about the 35-year-old’s movements after the last observation of him.

It was done near the Prix in the center of Skotfoss at 1730 on Saturday.

– Vi want to get in touch with witnesses who have seen the missing person in this area at this time, or who have had contact with him after Saturday night, says the police inspector.

Person found dead at Skotfoss

  • The 35-year-old, who lives in Holmestrand on a daily basis, travels to Skotfoss in Skien to take part in a party that starts early on Saturday afternoon.

  • According to his sister, his mother tried to call him on Sunday morning, but then a woman answered his phone. The woman is said to have claimed that he was subjected to violence, but that she did not know where he had gone afterwards.

  • The sister alerts the police and goes to Skotfoss to find her brother. A voluntary search operation is being launched.

  • The head of investigation and intelligence in Grenland, Annie Sandersen, says that they do not rule out that the man may be exposed to something criminal. The police have carried out a number of rough searches, collected video material, conducted interviews and are investigating widely.

  • The police believe there is a high probability that it is the missing person who has been found dead, but this has not been confirmed.

  • The police say there is little indication that the man has been exposed to anything criminal, but they are investigating several hypotheses.
