The emergency slide that fell off a Delta Air Lines B767 plane has reportedly washed up in front of a beach house owned by a lawyer who is suing Boeing over safety concerns.

DL 529 en route to Los Angeles was forced to return to New York’s John F Kennedy Airport (JFK) when the aircraft’s emergency slide fell from the aircraft shortly after take-off on 26 April.

Two days later, the punctured slide washed up in front of a lawyer’s beach house. His firm represents Boeing shareholders who have sued the planemaker over safety issues related to an incident in January this year when a door fell off an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAKS 9 plane.

A door panel dislodged on a floundering new Alaska Airlines plane at 16,000 feet, forcing the 737 Max 9 to make an emergency landing as passengers peered out of a gaping hole in the side of the plane.

Aerotime writes that New York attorney Jake Bissell-Linsk characterizes it as a “surprise” to discover the emergency slide when he looked out the window of his oceanfront home in Belle Harbor, Queens.

Belle Harbor is located 6 miles southeast of JFK Airport.

– We live right on the beach and I saw that it was on the breakwaters, says Bissell-Linsk to the New York Post.

According to Bissell-Links, Delta Air Lines crews arrived on the scene to haul the emergency slide out of the water about five hours later. A spokesperson for the airline told The Post that the emergency slide had been retrieved and the airline would “cooperate fully” with all relevant investigations.

Bissell-Linsk says his law firm has not yet decided whether the emergency slide incident might be relevant to their case against Boeing.

Bissell-Linsk’s law firm, Labaton Keller Sucharow, alleges that Boeing made misleading statements about safety after the Alaska Airlines crash in January 2024.
