(iFinnmark): This is what the brother of the murder victim, Tom Wagelid (40), in Honningsvåg tells iFinnmark.

Updated by the police

When iFinnmark spoke to Tom Wagelid at 3.30pm on Tuesday, he had just had a lengthy conversation with the police in Oslo.

– The police have said that I will be kept informed on an ongoing basis, and I agree to that, he says.

– I have not been allowed to say anything about what we talked about, he further tells iFinnmark.

When we spoke to him earlier in the day on Tuesday, Tom said he did not know more about the case than what has been written in the media.

Lived in Oslo for a long time

He says that his sister, Trine Wagelid, has lived in Oslo for the past ten years. The last time they met was last year, when their father Bernt Wagelid was buried. Their mother, Randi Marie, passed away in 2004.

Trine Wagelid has no children herself. Tom Wagelid has, and on Facebook he himself went out and talked about the murder, and asked those around him to pay attention to his children, and not ask them about the matter.

Tom Wagelid tells iFinnmark that the Nordkapp community has been very supportive after the incident.

Waived insulation

The man accused of murder was today remanded in custody for four weeks with a ban on letters, visits and the media. He was also initially given two weeks in solitary confinement, but police attorney Anne Cathrine Aga tells iFinnmark that the police have now waived this, because it is not necessary.

She goes on to say that the police are at the very beginning of the investigation. They still have investigative steps to take in the home of the accused murderer, where the murder took place.

When asked directly about motive, Aga says that the accused murderer has given a long and detailed explanation, also about the reason for the murder, without her wanting to comment on this in any further detail.

– He has given an explanation, and we have to check whether it is correct.

Awaiting autopsy report

Aga does not want to say anything about what kind of murder weapon the police have seized in the apartment.

– We are waiting for a preliminary autopsy report this afternoon, and it is possible that we can say something more in the case tomorrow, Wednesday, says the police attorney to iFinnmark.

She says they also investigate electronic traces from mobile phones, video surveillance and activity on social media.

– Then we will question people who have been in contact with the accused and the murder victim in the run-up to the murder.

Pronounced dead at the scene

There should not have been any other witnesses present during the act of murder itself.

The police and the ambulance arrived at the apartment at about the same time, after the murderer himself had called the police.

– The ambulance personnel declared the woman dead on the spot, says police attorney Anne Cathrine Aga to iFinnmark.

No legal counsel has been appointed in this murder case.

– Assistance lawyers are automatically appointed for people who are directly up or down the line of murder victims, i.e. parents or children. It is not in this case. Other relatives who may feel that they need an assistance lawyer can apply to get one, Aga explains in conclusion.
