You probably know the story of how Embracer made one spectacular acquisition after another, until the bubble burst last year and the crisis began. This has led to large layoffs, but also canceled games and unfortunately also closed developers.

The company’s founder and managing director Lars Wingefors says in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz that the blame should not be placed on his many employees, but that he believes that he himself should be shut up and that he deserves the criticism he has received:

“As a manager and owner, you have to take the blame from time to time, and you have to be humble about whether you made a mistake and whether you could have done something differently.

I certainly deserve a lot of criticism, but I don’t think my team or the companies deserve all the criticism. I can take a lot of the blame myself. But in the end, I have to believe in the mission we have set ourselves, and that still applies, and we are now making that possible with this [nye] the structure.”

While this doesn’t help those affected by the layoffs, it’s still refreshing to see a top executive admit that mistakes were made and actually take responsibility for them. Embracer recently restructured into three separate parts, and hopefully the worst is over for them.
