(Elbil24): – I’m sitting in the mailbox with the famous beard. Obviously I’m very disappointed. I have been like that for a long time, says Fisker Ocean owner Tom to Elbil24.

Tom does not want his last name or picture of himself in print. It is not difficult to understand, because the purchase of the much talked about Fisker Ocean has developed into a nightmare for him and his family.

A nightmare that actually started long before he had the car handed over on 15 September 2023 – and which reached its climax when he called his insurance company on Tuesday 7 May.

The message he received was merciless. The car he paid NOK 760,000 for cannot be comprehensively insured.

– It’s a scandal. Had I known it would turn out like this, I would never have bought this car, says Tom to Elbil24.

Therefore, comprehensive insurance is refused

It was Gjensidige that refused him comprehensive insurance over the phone. Today – Wednesday 8 May – it became known that Gjensidige is by no means alone in this decision: Norwegian insurance companies have decided to say no to comprehensive insurance for the electric car Fisker Ocean.

As you know, Fisker has a knife at his throat and is fighting these days to avoid bankruptcy. In Norway, 366 examples of the SUV have been registered, but with very gloomy prospects for Fisker, the value of the car is plummeting.

Just that is painful enough in itself for Tom and other Fisker owners. Now it will also be impossible for him and new owners to insure the car. Only liability insurance is made available. As a result, the owners will run a great risk every time they take the car out on the road.

– It’s a disgusting thought. Now I have to drive very carefully. Don’t risk anything. It is clearly frightening to drive a car worth close to NOK 800,000 without adequate insurance, says the Fisker Ocean owner.

Violent loss of value

Bad luck on the assembly line

Now you may be wondering why Tom only needs comprehensive insurance eight months after he got the car home? Well, the story is as incredible as it is grim.

In short, Tom received the car in mid-September. However, the problems piled up and the car eventually ended up in a workshop for three months. The 12V battery and one motor had to be replaced and that turned out to be easier said than done.

Fisker was neat enough to offer Tom a loaner car, and this is where matters get complicated.

– The loan car was completely my husband. As the repair was never completed, I eventually entered into an agreement with Fisker to trade, so that they took over my car and I took over their loaner car.

– This loan car was insured through Fisker, but when it was re-registered to me, I had to take out new insurance. And here we are now, says Tom and sighs.

These electric cars have the most satisfied owners

– Henrik Fisker has lived on a cloud

He never got out of the Fisker deal and now has to pay dearly. The hope is that his model, which will become impossible to sell without accepting a massive price drop, will manage without problems for many years to come.

– The hope is that I will have the car for 10 years. There has been no nonsense with the one I drive now and it is very good to drive, says Tom.

But the fact that the car was worth the wait can only be forgotten. Tom paid 50,000 in advance and had to accept that the car was half a year late. Now, of course, he wishes he had never entered into an agreement with Fisker.

– Fisker must have made some very big mistakes. And the owner, Henrik Fisker, he has lived on a cloud. With far too big dreams, and then it’s just been nonsense all the way. And now this, Tom concludes.
