It was the Slovenian cross-country runner Hana Mazi Jamnik who died, writes the Slovenian national team on its website.
“During the preparations in Norway, the life of our young cross-country runner, Hana Mazi Jamnik, ended in a tragic accident,” the message says.
The accident happened on Thursday morning in Strand in Rogaland.
Jamnik was new to the Slovenian national team before the upcoming WC season at home in Planica. She went to the junior NM at Lygna last winter. Last week she participated in Blinkfestivalen.

On Thursday morning, the police in the south-west reported that there had been an accident on county road 523 in the Botshei tunnel, which is located between Forsand and Jørpeland.
– A person on roller skis is seriously injured, said operations manager Jostein Reiestad to VG.
At 1:54 p.m., the police reported that a 19-year-old woman had died. The bereaved have been notified.
The woman was flown to Stavanger University Hospital by air ambulance, but died at the hospital.
– There is reason to believe that another vehicle was involved in the accident. We have control over this vehicle and the driver, and are continuing our investigations, the police report.
One charged
In an update, the police state that a truck was involved in the accident.
The driver has been charged with breaching section three of the Road Traffic Act.
According to paragraph three, everyone must travel considerately and be alert and careful so that no danger can arise or damage be caused and so that other traffic is not unnecessarily obstructed or disturbed.
The person’s driver’s license has been revoked.
– We have also taken a blood sample from the person concerned, says police attorney Sveinung Andersen.
Investigating the cause
At 16:52, the operations manager says that the police and crime scene technicians have recently left the scene, and that the road is now open again.
The road was previously closed in both directions. The tunnel could be closed for a long time, stated Vegtrafikksentralen west.
– Detour via county road 4638 Kvalvågvegen from Botne – Lysefjordbrua. Not recommended for larger vehicles, they reported.
The police received a report about the incident at 08:41. They are investigating what may have caused the accident.
The police are currently interviewing witnesses. Forensic technicians from the police are on the scene.
VG has been in contact with Rogaland fire and rescue, who refer to the police for further information about the case.
