Norway along the way: Travel letter from Marcus 26 April – iGjerstad.no

--

Since the last feedback to iGjerstad, I have crossed the Setesdalsheiene from Ljosland to Haukeliseter.

I did this with skis and sleds, my dog Buck was also involved. I spent 7-8 days and had probably such tough conditions along the way. Regulated water created challenges as there was a lot of bad ice and I had to walk around.

Halfway to Haukeli there was a change in the weather! Westerly weather, fog and 25cm of wet snow in one night. After this, there was some “clapping” and tired driving. But we worked our way meter by metre, got to see a lot of magnificent nature, hundreds of grouse, walked on a reindeer herd of 20-25 animals and got to see several avalanches going (at a safe distance).

We arrived a little tired, but very satisfied at Haukeliseter. There, my father was waiting for me with provisions and a new hiking companion.

My dog Buck toiled with the bright light over the Setesdal moors, so I chose to send him home at Haukeliseter.

After 1 rest day at Haukeli, the journey continued into the Hardangervidda! Without Buck, but with my new travel companion Lars Jonny Vestigard.

Me and Lars Jonny spent 7 days across Hardangervidda to Finse. We had brilliant weather and hard driving next the whole way! We encountered grouse, reindeer and pleasant mountain people.

But we hit a snag! We had packed bait, jigging equipment and ice drills. The problem was that we simply couldn’t get through the ice on a single piece of water…. The ice was too thick (the ice auger we had was 160cm). So winter has by no means let go of the roof in the high mountains.

Now I sit at Finse. Lars Jonny has gone home, I have got new provisions and am packed and ready to go further north.

The next areas I will go through now are Skarvheimen, Tyin and Jotunheimen.

My sermon!
