Criticism hailed after a weak performance – now they want to turn it around

--

– We’re not that happy either, of course. That’s not how we should appear, says Molde player Emil Varhaugvik Breivik.

The Molde supporters were not gracious after the weak performance against Sandefjord in the Eliteserien on Sunday. Several expressed their frustration on social media:

“I’m as disappointed and angry as I rarely am after a football match today. I live just fine with a loss every now and then. I don’t get too stressed out that the game isn’t dazzling. Today it just hurts to watch.”

“This year’s Molde team and the football that is played is not to be fooled. The game is so low level. And that after strengthening the squad more than in any other transfer window..”

– We cannot do much about it now, other than that we have talked about it and will correct it on Wednesday, says Breivik.

– When you lose matches, there is always criticism when you train in Molde, says Erling Moe.

Must perform better

On Wednesday, a quarter-final in the cup will be played, and Molde will face Sarpsborg 08 at home.

– It’s a revenge-hungry group that will be out here on Wednesday, says Molde coach Erling Moe.

He says that he has put Sunday’s match behind him, and that he is now looking ahead. But he is clear that the performance must be better than on Sunday if they are to have a chance of progressing in the cup.

– It is important that we are present, we were not against Sandefjord. Hopefully we will put together a good enough performance to reach the one goal in the cup, which is to go further, says Moe.

Last year, Molde won the cup final against Bodø/Glimt.

– Favorites to win the whole thing

Football commentator in NRK, Rune Hustad, followed Molde’s away game against Sandefjord. He says that the team does not at all hung together defensively, and that the game was a big letdown compared to the start of the season.

Then Molde played three games in a row without a goal, but this unfortunately reminded me a little too much of last year, where they struggled very much at the back on the pitch, says Hustad.

NRK’s football commentator Rune Hustad believes that Molde has good opportunities to win the cup.

But Hustad reminds us that football is a fresh commodity, and that the match played on Wednesday is a perfect opportunity to bounce back quickly.

Although Sarpsborg has shown improvement in the Eliteserien, Molde must be a better team. Therefore, the opportunity is good for further advancement in the cup, a cup where Molde are now favorites to win the whole thing, Hustad believes.

Player Emil Varhaugvik Breivik is clear that they also have ambitions to pick up the King’s Cup this year.

– We want to go to the cup final and we want to win it. It’s as simple as that, he says.
