The former Spanish football president Luis Rubiales was arrested on Wednesday when he landed at the airport in Madrid. This is reported by several Spanish media, including Marca.
Rubiales is said to have spent the last few weeks in the Dominican Republic.
The 46-year-old now risks 2.5 years in prison after he kissed national team player Jenni Hermoso against her will this summer. See the situation in the video above.
The incident took place after Spain won the women’s World Cup gold last summer. Rubiales, who was then president of the Spanish Football Federation, kissed Hermoso on the mouth without her consent.
After the incident, Rubiales resigned as president, was banned from football for three years and has now been charged with sexual assault and illegal coercion.
According to Marca, he is also being investigated for money laundering, business corruption, unfair administration and membership in a criminal organisation.
When the 46-year-old landed at the airport in Madrid, he was immediately arrested by the police. He now risks two and a half years in prison for the incident this summer.
