The national team is waiting for Arsenal’s decision on Frida Maanum

– We don’t know that quite yet. She is going through tests and if they are positive and all is well with her, then she may appear here. The most important thing is that she is doing well, says Guro Reiten to VG. Norway starts the EC qualification against Finland on Friday.

The Chelsea player was on the pitch when Arsenal player Maanum fell over in the League Cup final.

– Unpleasant. Scary. You get scared and sad. There was a lot of emotion there, says Guro Reiten about the experience at Molineux Stadium in Wolverhampton.

The national team friend collapsed and disappeared on a stretcher with an oxygen mask.

– We knew she was getting the best help and we were told quite quickly that she was doing well, says Reiten. She was in contact with Maanum via SMS after the league cup final.

– I got an answer quite quickly. It was good, says Reiten. She played on after the tough experience with a good friend involved.

– That was hard. It put a strain on one. Football becomes unimportant. But as soon as we got word that it went well and that the match was going to be started again, you just have to change your focus, be raw about it, and try to put it aside as best as possible, says Reiten .

She feels that she managed to be professional under demanding circumstances. Maanum’s collapse doesn’t scare her.

– It doesn’t, she says.

– Are you exposed to quite a lot of stress as players?

– We receive very good follow-up from good medical teams who take care of us. We saw that out on the pitch on Sunday. Frida got the best help she could get. Things like this don’t just happen on a football pitch. Of course it’s scary. But it went okay.

According to national team manager Gemma Grainger, a decision is expected on Tuesday. She spoke to Maanum on Saturday night.

– Arsenal must conclude after the testing. If they are satisfied, I hope Frida can join. She wants to be involved, it’s very nice, says Grainger to TV 2.

– We are very saddened by the news about Frida. Our department is in dialogue with Arsenal and we will follow up closely. We send her our warmest thoughts and wishes, says Grainger to VG on Monday.

Frida Maanum collapsed and was attended to by medical staff during Arsenal’s League Cup final against Chelsea on Sunday, which Arsenal won. She was carried out on a stretcher, but was stable and conscious a short time later.

– Frida is doing well now and she is being followed up by the medical team at Arsenal, mother Liz-Heidi Leonardsen told VG after the match.

On Monday, Norway gathers for a national team meeting ahead of qualification for the European Championship in 2025. After the match against Finland at Ullevaal on Friday, the Netherlands await away next Tuesday. Italy is the last team in Norway’s group.
