On Wednesday, Anders Mol himself shared the news that he has suffered a broken leg and is out for at least six weeks. He is one of Norway’s great Olympic hopes in Paris this coming summer together with partner Christian Sørum. The duo are the reigning Olympic champions in beach volleyball.
The injury occurred at training camp during a duel against Sweden in Tenerife on Monday.

Heard it crunch
Mol tells Dagbladet that he was going to jump up to take a serve. The landing went wrong.
– I landed on my toe in a hard pit, got all my weight on it and stepped over, then I heard a crunch, he describes to Dagbladet.

Despite the fact that it was a pain he hadn’t felt before, he thought it was just a step over. But after conferring with doctors at the Olympic summit, he took an X-ray in Spain, where the fracture was confirmed.

– Stupid to wait
On Thursday, Mol underwent surgery for the fracture in Salzburg. The Olympic winner chose to take urgent action when the message was that he could not be operated on in Norway before 2 April due to the fact that the Olympiatoppen did not have available orthopedists at Easter.
– I thought it was stupid to wait, you have no time to lose. That we were able to do it so quickly was absolutely enormous, says the Olympic winner on the phone from Salzburg a few hours after the operation.

It was made possible by Mol and Sørum’s partner Red Bull after the 26-year-old checked the possibilities himself. He updates that the operation went very well. The doctor in Norway is also satisfied, assures Mol.
He receives follow-up in Austria on Friday before he travels home to Norway on Saturday. He now has to wait six weeks with a splint on his foot before he can gradually take up training.

Easter holiday cancelled
Important tournaments in Mexico and Brazil and a sunny Easter in Tenerife have been canceled. He had his partner Karoline Olsen with him on the flight to Salzburg via Stockholm. She had barely managed to arrive on the Spanish island before the fracture in her foot occurred.

– It was a bit comical. She was going on Easter holiday in Tenerife to be with us, but she didn’t get much sun. She came down the day I injured myself, took part in training, then 30 minutes and then I was injured, laughs Mol.

Both important training months and tournaments for Mol and partner Sørum are coming up before this summer’s Olympics in Paris. The job of finding the best way back starts as soon as he gets home.
