It’s horrible goalkeeping. Then Bård Finne will be expelled for that, Morten Langli blurted out in TV 2’s FotballXtra studio, after Brann’s attacking player Bård Finne had been given marching orders against KFUM Oslo.

The fight is still going on. Follow the second half live here.

The referee drew the red card after Finne went into karate kick height with the knobs first and hit the face of the threatening YMCA goalkeeper Ødegaard inside the 16-metre area.

It wasn’t just Finne who had to leave the field. Keeper Ødegaard took such a beating in the clash that he too had to take an early night.

But for NRK’s football expert Carl Erik Torp, the decision is clear.

– This specific situation is fine and will always be a red card in my book when the consequence of the high foot is that it hits a head, says Torp to NRK.

He points out that this is especially true since Finne’s foot was so high.

But the red card made it boil among the experts in TV 2’s studio. Because they disagreed vehemently about whether Finne was to blame for the episode.

Langli questioned who actually created the dangerous situation. But got an answer from former national team goalkeeper Erik Thorstvedt.

– If you take a brass kick, you must know that there is a risk of injury. Foot up at this height …, said Thorstvedt who could not get any more before Langli came forward with counterarguments.

– For me it is difficult. But I am reasonably confident that the judges will agree that it is red shortly after the book, says Thorstvedt.

Disagree

Yaw Amankwah established that Bård Finne’s knobs hit Ødegaard right in the “snout”. He agreed that it was only Finne’s intention to get into the situation first, but at the same time warned:

If you open up to enter that height with the knobs first, you open up to even more head injuries.

Several joined the discussion during the match

– This is of course a red card. Has nothing to say that he is first on the ball, and when the referee sees this in the replay he can have no doubts. Strange that he doesn’t give it live, because he is very well placed, reported TV 2 expert Jesper Mathisen on X during the match.

Torp would have thought that the goalkeeper would have been more responsible even for the fact that he was injured in the situation if the foot had been lower.

– It is a very interesting situation, which is good to be discussed, says Torp, who has played for both Brann and YMCA.

He points out that according to the regulations it is a clear red card regardless of whether it is not intentional or that the ball is first.

– It is about an opponent being exposed to great danger, says Torp.

But he thinks it is important to discuss the responsibility of players who get into situations too late and themselves ensure that you end up in danger.

– We can’t be hated in such a way that players can run headlong into situations, says Torp.

The match is still in progress and the score is 0-0.

More red cards

It wasn’t at the YMCA Arena that the players got their marching orders. However, there was less discussion around the expulsion of Lillestrøm’s Félix Vá. There was full agreement that his behavior had nothing to do on a football pitch.

Because instead of becoming a hero by putting in 2-0, a situation in the penalty area ended with the Lillestrøm player clearly going to stamp HamKam’s Luc Mares on purpose.

– That must be red. A result like that is a total head-scratcher. Here there is no doubt. It’s just a roller blind and a head mist. It is so unfamiliar, says Yaw Amankwah.

– It’s with both legs. That is completely wild, says Morten Langli. – That will result in a suspension for several matches. It has nothing to do on a football pitch, says Amankwah.
