Bank employees arrested in large police operation in Oslo – NRK Oslo and Viken – Local news, TV and radio

--

It was a little over eight o’clock that plainclothes police began searching the workplaces of several Nordea employees.

According to VG, which first mentioned the case, they acted on suspicion of corruption and loan fraud for more than NOK 150 million.

The action takes place in connection with an investigation following a report from Nordea.

– The review came in February this year. Five people are charged with gross corruption or complicity in gross corruption, police lawyer Kristin Rusdal told NRK.

The accused will be questioned during the day.

– The charge applies to a period from 2018 to now.

Two bank employees arrested

Nordea’s communications director Christian Steffensen confirms to NRK that two bank employees have been arrested.

– This is happening on the basis of conditions that have been revealed internally, and which meant that earlier this year we went to the police to report the findings that have been made, Steffensen says.

– These are conditions that may indicate a breach of the rules and are related to lending money.

Steffensen will not comment on whether they suspect that more bank employees are involved.

– Where did the two work?

– What we can say is that they worked within a part of the business that has worked with lending money.

Rusdal will not say anything about the three others who have been arrested and charged.

– Zero tolerance for violations

Steffensen says they take the matter very seriously.

– Nordea has zero tolerance for breaches of the rules, and is now taking all the necessary steps towards the two employees. Initially, they are suspended.

– Is it a large amount in question?

– We can not comment on the details there.

Hit against private addresses

On Tuesday morning, the police also raided several private addresses in Oslo.

This was a major coordinated action that included over 50 police officers, writes VG.

NRK has been in contact with Økokrim, which will not comment on whether they are involved in the case.

Neighbors confirm to NRK that the police acted against a private address in Greenland at seven o’clock Tuesday morning.
