“Six places that should have been playgrounds in Bergen”

There would have been room for a playground at the Festplassen, right? Bjørn Erik Larsen (archive)

Dear politicians and developers: Look at this as a wish list.

We have to make more space for children in Bergen.

There are actually no playgrounds in the center of Bergen. As a result, the city center does not become the attraction it should be for families.

Bergen city center is crowded, many argue. And that’s it. There are not many vacant, good plots. But of course we have to be completely honest: isn’t it mostly about will?

Because there is room, if you decide for it.

Here is therefore a wish list for politicians and developers, completely without regard to whether it is realistic:

Let Solheimsviken live outside office hours

Tor Høvik (archive)

Between the Moxy hotel and the office building Skipet, there has long been a large open gravel area.

It is sunny, defined and nice. Perfect for a playground.

Solheimsviken has become a place where people are only during office hours, unless they are going to the emergency room. It is unbelievably bad use of an area that is so well situated.

A playground would solve the problem, for both people and businesses.

With a good enough offer, families would run errands here. While the kids frolicked, the parents could buy coffee, have a beer outside and eat lunch.

However, it will not be like this. The playground is not worth it, developer GC Rieber will instead build yet another office building. And so Solheimsviken continues to be a place people go to only for business and broken bones.
