Premier League: Liverpool beat Tottenham 4-2

--

(Liverpool – Tottenham 4-2) Liverpool kept up with party football – until there were 20 minutes left.

Sunday 5 May at 19:57

– For 60 minutes we were class. That hour is one of our best performances this season, says Andy Robertson to Viaplay after the match.

In the first hour, most things went smoothly for Liverpool. Then it was 4-0 on the scoreboard.

– Liverpool are back on the winning track. It was a wild fight. Klopp’s side were outstanding for an hour as Salah, Robertson, Gakpo and Elliott scored. Then they relaxed a bit and had to pay the price with Richarlison and Son reducing, summarizes The Athletic journalist James Pearce at X.

After the hour had been played, Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou made three substitutions – one of them mentioning Richarlison. Within three minutes, the Brazilian was involved in two reductions.

First he scored himself. Then he assisted Son Heung-min. Suddenly it was 4-2 on the scoreboard and there were tendencies towards tension in the match again.

Right before and after Tottenham’s first goal, Jürgen Klopp made a total of four substitutions. It obviously created an imbalance in the Liverpool team – which had dominated for most of the match.

But Liverpool held on and secured victory in what was Jürgen Klopp’s penultimate home game. Liverpool meet Wolverhampton at home in the last league round.

Liverpool still have a slim mathematical chance of winning the Premier League:

  • Then they have to win their last two games.
  • At the same time as Arsenal lose both their games AND City only get one point from their three games.

For a long time it was total Liverpool dominance:

  • 1–0: Gakpo challenged on the left, went inside and chipped in at the back to Salah. Salah headed the ball high into the goal. It was the Egyptian’s 12th goal in 20 games against Spurs.
  • 2–0: Liverpool had plenty of chances after the 1-0 goal. Vicario had to return after a Salah finish. There stood Andy Robertson and surely put it in the goal.
  • 3–0: Elliott gets put in against Gakpo at the back. The Dutchman is superb in the air and gets his head in the short corner.
  • 4–0: The highlight of the match. Harvey Elliott glued the ball into the farthest cross from 17-18 meters.
