According to the police, there is heavy smoke from the fire. The smoke moves towards the center of Sem. The fire service is working to extinguish the fire.

– The police urge residents to keep their windows closed. The public is asked to stay away, so that the emergency services can work on site, says operations manager Espen Reite at the police.

Vestfoldbanen had to close

He says the railway is right next to the buildings that are burning.

– Train traffic is closed at the site now, says Reite at 05.28.

But at 06.08 train traffic was opened again.

The fire service states that while the fire was at its most intense, traffic on the railway had to be stopped.

– We have control at the site and the trains on the Vestfold Line can pass, says duty fire chief Tor Atle Jakobsen.

Three buildings burnt down

Shortly after 06:00, the police state that large parts of the buildings have been burnt down. No one is missing, and no injuries have been reported.

The fire was reported at 05.14 by people living in the area.

According to the fire service, three large greenhouses have been lost in the fire.

High flames

Operations leader Sven Erik Andersen in the fire service says two rows of greenhouses were burning well when they arrived at the scene. Then there was also a spread to a third row of greenhouses.

– That is what meets us. Fairly high flames and great heat generation, says Andersen.

– Was there a risk of explosion?

– We know that gas, electricity and possibly oil are used in such places. So our main focus is to make sure it doesn’t spread to fuel oil or this gas tank.

The fire service states that they have managed to prevent the fire from reaching a larger gas tank. An oil tank that was over 100 degrees was also cooled down.
