Aamodt Kilde will join the committee that will consider changes to the current national team agreement. Thus he reverses his decision. In February, he was not interested in participating.

Atle Lie McGrath will participate as athlete representative for the technical team when Kilde cannot participate.

The committee is now fully formed, and will submit its recommendation to the ski board during the spring. This is what the Norwegian Ski Association writes in a press release.

– I have been clear, also in the media, when it comes to my perception of the Ski Association’s handling of this process. Trust has been severely tested, but I still feel that there is now a real will to find solutions, says Aamodt Kilde.

He states that the Skiing Association has recently participated in constructive dialogues with the alpine national team, and is satisfied with the experience that there is a common recognition that it is necessary to revise the national team agreement.

– This has been a positive step in the direction of restoring trust, as we feel that our views are both heard and respected, he says further.

This is the conflict that made Lucas Braathen give himself up for Norway:

The selection includes jumper Johann Forfang and cross-country skier Pål Golberg. There are also a number of sponsor managers, in addition to several of the managers for the various skiing disciplines. Alpine manager Claus Ryste is also there

General secretary Arne Baumann says it was crucial that an alpinist join the committee.

– We will talk openly about all issues and have an ambition for the committee to deliver an agreed recommendation to the ski board. At the same time, we recognize that it is demanding to find solutions that safeguard the interests of all athletes, seven disciplines, partners, the Ski Association and Ski-Norway as a whole, says Baumann.

The national team agreement itself must be drafted before the start of the 2024/25 season.

This is the conflict

  • Norwegian alpine stars have for several years been in conflict with the Norwegian Ski Association (NSF) over market rights and the national team agreement.
  • According to their lawyer Pål Kleven, the athletes have felt ignored and treated disrespectfully. Some have not signed the national team agreement since 2021.
  • The athletes’ lawyer believes that it is out of the question to sign any national team agreement now. The Ski Association’s own legislative committee (LPU) has previously given support to the athletes.
  • For a long time, there have been discussions and negotiations about who owns the performers’ market rights, the nearest defined “image rights”, or in good Norwegian image rights.
  • Just two days before the first race of the season, alpine skier Lucas Braathen shocked when he quit at the age of 23. The conflict greatly contributed to this.
  • In November 2023, the legislative committee of the Norwegian Sports Confederation determined that “athletes have property rights to their own name, image and signature”.
