Success last year

But first to this year’s “Home to Larvik” event, which starts at the Grand hotel on 21 June this year.

– In short, it is a combined summer party and job fair. It was very exciting to take part in this last year, and we are looking forward to doing it again, says Linnea.

– Who is the event for?

– Those who have a connection to Larvik may have traveled abroad and entered an establishment phase, and are considering moving home. Here you can meet exciting companies and at the same time have a memorable summer evening with friends or family. It is a golden opportunity to bring your children home to Larvik, says Linnea.

– People who are curious about Larvik, without necessarily having any connection to the city from the past, are welcome, adds Sigve.

He can sign that it is nice to exchange 60 square meters in Oslo for a detached house and proximity to the sea and grandparents.

– The only thing I think is very boastful is having a garden and cutting the grass! It just gets more and more moss, he says with a laugh.

Some changes

“Home to Larvik” is organized by Larvik business association, Larvik municipality and Østlands-Posten.

The organizers use the experience from last year to make some changes. Among other things, the event will be completely free this year, and they have chosen to move the time from August to June.

– We learned in August last year that many had returned to their places of study. By adding this to the Midsummer weekend, people have time to get home, says Anne.

– This is a great opportunity to look for work and have a summer party with friends, and perhaps meet many old friends, says Linnea.

This year, the organizers want to have an even wider offer at the job fair itself.

– Last year there were a few industries that were represented. We therefore encourage companies that wish to participate to get in touch. It’s a great opportunity to show off and get in touch with potential applicants, says Linnea.

As for the party afterwards, the organizers want to make more out of the summer party.

– The idea is to get some artists or DJs to play, and maybe have a quiz. We are open to input! says Linnea.

Job fair

Linnea has seen for herself how useful such an arrangement can be:

– I have friends who don’t live in Larvik who are surprised when they find out how big the job market is here. There are many more possibilities than you might think. There is perhaps a bit of a lack of information about all the possibilities, which is why such an event is important. It has been missed, she says.

Many of Larvik’s businesses that are looking for new employees will be present, so that those interested can have an informal chat and get to know each other.

– Of course we want everyone who moves here to work in Larvik. At the same time, it is important to emphasize that there are many opportunities in our region. Within a radius of half an hour’s drive, there are 300,000 people. So businesses from neighboring towns are welcome to come and show themselves off too. For us, the most important thing is that we get more people to move to Larvik, says Sigve.

He uses the opportunity to dispel a couple of myths about Larvik and immigration.

– Many people think that only old people move to Larvik to be close to the sea. But in fact over 50 per cent of those who move home are under 30, he says.

He adds that in the last two years we have had a record in terms of moving to Larvik.

– We had almost 2,000 people move in in both 2022 and 2023. We are breathing down Sandefjord and Tønsberg’s neck when it comes to people moving in, it is a good trend that we have to work on further to achieve, he says.

Mayor Birgitte Gulla Løken has stated that within her current mayoral term, over 50,000 people will live in Larvik.

The best of Larvik

The trio agree that Larvik is a good city to live in in, perhaps especially the season we are now entering.

– The times we are entering remind me why we moved! Oterøya, Sukkersletta, Hølen food bar, Saltbrygga, the intimate little streets on Halsen, says Sigve, who has settled on Østre Halsen.

– I feel that there is a closeness to everything, regardless of what you are going to do, he says.

– There is so much happening in our city. All you have to do is look around us, at Grandkvartalet and Kulturhuset Bølgen. If you want to come up with something, you can certainly do it all the time, says Anne.

– Not least, we have got Vestfold’s rawest food scene, layr Sigve to, and refers to the positive attention the city’s restaurants have recently received.

– Can you name some positive experiences in Larvik recently?

– I want to highlight the Fram stadium, the unity between children and young people there as a mother of a boy and a girl who play football. Dinner at Hummerberget with sunset. The sea. Short trip, fantastic, great experience. Bølgen cultural center. Own garden. Not to mention all the places you can go out to eat! Drug learning under the auspices of the tourist association, new playground in Bøkeskogen. The paddle cabin. All nearby hiking opportunities. Take the train to Oslo and other places. The Customs House. See Borgertoget for numbers of teams and associations in the area.

Anne hardly gets everything sorted out.

– Those who think that Larvik is small and boring may not have wanted to, or explored all the possibilities that exist in Larvik!
