COMMENT: That the municipal council in Drammen decided on Tuesday evening that the municipality will accept 125 refugees this year was no bombshell. And that an unfortunate debate that has overshadowed all other important problems facing Drammen has thus been put to an end, everyone should now be happy about that.

What should actually be debated again was how many refugees Drammen will accept this year. However, the debate focused embarrassingly little on the number of refugees. Here, “snørr and barter” were once again mixed together.

Again there was a debate there the opposition’s most important task was to scold the Progress Party and the majority position rather than coming up with good arguments for its proposals to accept a larger number of refugees than was adopted.

That Tony Burner from SV claimed that there are no integration problems in Drammen, and that the Center Party’s Simon Nordanger was referred to as the “drama queen” in the corridors of the town hall after the debate, shows in my opinion that Venstre’s Herman Ekle Lund hit the nail on the head when he said that “the debate Tuesday showed the Drammen municipal council at its worst”.
