The woman was pregnant when she was killed with a knife in front of her own children on 23 August last year, according to Adresseavisen.
– I am satisfied that the court has delivered a thorough and good judgment. The court has fully followed the prosecution’s statements and arguments, but has taken a more serious view of the criminality of the act. We take note of that, says the prosecutor in the case, State Attorney Rikhard Haugen Lyng, to the newspaper.
The man, now convicted of murder, took the children with him and drove to the police station in Stjørdal to report himself immediately after the knife murder.
Adressa writes that it emerged in court that she expressed to several people that she feared for her own and the children’s safety, because she wanted to leave her husband. The father was also indicted in the district court for gross mistreatment of the two children, who the prosecution believes were aware of what happened.
Legal aid attorney Idar Hegsethtrø, for his part, brought forward compensation claims of a total of almost NOK five million against the man on behalf of his own children.
The man’s defender, lawyer Knut-Erik Storlykken Søvik, has not been in contact with his client after the verdict came down and therefore does not wish to comment on the verdict.
