A Russian traveling party was checked this weekend at Ramberg in Lofoten, Lofotposten reports.
A woman in the entourage was arrested and had forged a Polish residence card, says head of the Nordland police district’s section for immigration and border control, Øvind Røsnes, to the local newspaper.
The entourage was in Norway under the auspices of an Estonian company, which, according to the newspaper, has also previously been in the police’s spotlight.
– On their websites, the company presents it as if people who travel with them can apply for a visa to another country in Europe, and still go to Norway, says Røsnes to Lofotposten.
After the invasion of Ukraine, it has become significantly more difficult for Russian citizens to obtain tourist visas for Schengen countries. In September 2022, Norway and the EU canceled a simplified visa agreement with Russia.
Russian applications for tourist visas are generally refused, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ practice.
