News, Student | Exam time and full reading places: – Race to the quiet room

--

It is not an unknown problem that Bergen’s students feel that places in the reading room are cramped. This is particularly noticeable during the exam period, say BI students Mille Natås and Ida Haug.

– There are people here from when they open the doors at 0730, then there is a queue outside the quiet room, says Mille Natås.

If you arrive late, you are in no way guaranteed a place, according to Natås, who studies economics and administration.

– Tight all year round

– Large tables in the open hall are taken straight away and people often save places for their group, says Ida Haug.

Haug studies business law and economics and is in his first year at BI.

– There are several places in the hall down by the entrance, but it is often very noisy there.

The students think BI is the place with the fewest reading places.

– It’s tight all year round.

– Are there people who sit in other studies’ reading rooms?

– Yes, some do, especially at UiB. It is generally cramped here, not just at BI, but everywhere in reading rooms and libraries, says Natås.

– Race up the stairs

Students Madelen Hole and Maria Pernille Olsen have found a table in the library at BI. They say you must have card access to enter the building.

– Not many other students come here to read. But I know of many who sit in other studies’ reading places, says Hole.

Both agree that the places are filled during the exam period.

– You have to be here at 0730 if you want a place in the quiet room. Then it’s a race up the stairs, says Hole.

A challenge for central students

Monday morning is the exam for many of the students at NHH. Therefore, many reading places are empty in the reading room.

– It’s usually full, you have to be here at 0700 if you want to get good seats, says Master’s student Don Huynh.

He is early and was the first to arrive at the reading room he is sitting in.

– If you come on the day, there is no room.

– For me it is not a problem since I live right nearby. But for students who live at Møhlenpris or in the city centre, it is more difficult.

Huynh says he has several friends who live in the city center who often use other students’ reading places.

Regine Kallmyr says places are tightest in the autumn.

– In the spring, the exam dates are more spread out, and there are more people on exchange.

Kallmyr says it fills up after 0900 in the spring.

– If you come early, it’s fine. In autumn, you should be here before 0800, says bachelor’s student Regine Kallmyr.
