OPINIONS: The municipal company Lindum is a fantastic company that has made a formidable profit every year for the good of the city’s residents. They turn trash into money. Lindum cleans contaminated water and contaminated masses. Private households can deliver waste for free, which means that we do not throw rubbish into nature, and we learn that waste is valuable.

Lindum is also a pioneering company to develop new products and ensure that we get rid of dangerous waste substances. The people of Drammen should be proud of Lindum and the work they do for the community. Lindum must therefore be allowed to develop further and grow.

But Lindum must not be allowed to grow on topsoil. We need topsoil to produce food. If we take topsoil for industry, it will be forever. It is not justifiable.

Lindum wants 110 measures of the neighbours’ arable land, 90 acres is cultivated land. Lindum claims that they will get back topsoil in 40 – 50 years. It is very long-term. And where will the food be produced in the next 50 years? The farmer who also owns the forest was refused a few years ago to cut down the forest because it was of high value. The note from Lindum now states that the forest has a low or medium value.

The municipal director recommends that Drammen should enter into mediation to expand the area of the waste disposal facility on topsoil and forest land. In connection with the treatment of the municipal plan’s area section in the municipal council on 7 May, KrF’s two representatives will not support this.

There are strong objections against such an extension from both the State Administrator and the county council. The main conclusion is that it will have “large or very large negative consequences”. Landowners also do not give consent. The expansion will result in loss of soil conservation, forestry, pollution, impact on water bodies and increase traffic congestion and noise.

KrF will take into account the superior authorities’ assessment and the farmer’s future opportunities to grow grain on his land. For KrF, soil conservation is linked to one of our most important value pillars, stewardship responsibility, and the times we live in dictate that arable land must not be lost. Considerations for increased food safety also indicate that. We went to the election on that and we will keep that promise.
