Exercise: From 10.00, the emergency services carry out a so-called PLIVO exercise, which means “Ongoing life-threatening violence”.

For those in the area, there will be visible armed police in the streets. Loose shots will be used during the exercise, so the sound of shots can be heard. Harmless smoke may arise during the exercise.

PLIVO incidents are one of the most difficult things service personnel can face, which is why they practice this very thing.

Why PLIVO exercise

In 2015, a new national procedure for the cooperation of the emergency services in ongoing life-threatening violence (PLIVO) was presented.

The procedure is a collaboration between the police, the fire and rescue service and the health service, and will form the basis for an improved national preparedness to deal with incidents where life-threatening violence is perpetrated against several people.

The development of the procedure is a follow-up after the events of 22 July 2011.

The exercise

The aim is for the emergency services to practice coordinating the handling of such an incident.

It provides great value for all three emergency services to have the response personnel and management trained at both tactical and operational level.

Through the exercise, the emergency services become familiar with NAV’s premises.

– There will be no meeting activity with residents and partners during the exercise on 8 May, says business manager at NAV Haugesund-Utsira, Jan Ivar Hauge Bringedal.

The training area will be marked with signs, and there will be instructors strategically placed to provide information to the public.
