The summer heat is over in southern Norway. But it won’t be too crazy on National Day.

Monday 6 May at 16:38

The short version

  • On-duty meteorologist Sigrid Auganæs says the temperatures will be between 8-15 degrees in Oslo, Bergen, Kristiansand and Trondheim
  • There is a greater chance of rain in Bergen than in Oslo, but the final weather forecast will be clearer next week
  • In Tromsø and further north, temperatures will stay around 5–10 degrees
  • The next heat wave will most likely not come until June

That is to say: The forecasts show perfectly fine weather on 17 May in most parts of the country.

– It seems that it will be relatively nice, says meteorologist on duty Sigrid Auganæs.

For now, it is easier to say something about the temperatures than whether it will be sunny or rainy, she emphasizes.

– In Oslo, Bergen, Kristiansand and Trondheim it seems to be between 8 and 15 degrees. It’s actually quite nice bunad weather, if you ask me.

In Bergen there is a slightly greater chance of rain than in Oslo.

– But not the whole world either. It depends on the low pressures, because they usually come in from the west.

– Above 20 degrees and sunny as vii Southern Norway had it for a couple of days nowwe are not there?

– No, we are not. The trend in temperature, there are spring temperatures.

– Completely normal for May, then?

– Yes, it is.

No danger of the ice melting over the bottom before you can turn around, that is.

– Is it too ambitious to plan for a May 17 celebration in the garden now?

– It’s probably a good idea to have a plan b and rather make a proper action plan when next week comes, because then it will be safer.

In Tromsø and further north there is currently little chance of precipitation.

– Especially in Finnmark. It is normal spring weather, but a little colder than in southern Norway, of course. Between 5-10 degrees for now.

As we entered May, we got a real taste of summer with temperatures approaching 25 degrees in places like Bergen and Oslo. The summery weather stretched up to over Trøndelag.

But the southern heat disappeared as quickly as it came. When will it return?

– For Oslo, it goes up and down with plus or minus five degrees going forward. So we may have to go out in June before we go on those crazy days with 25 degrees and sun.

Somewhat consolingly, she adds:

– That can change quickly. And from 20 May onwards we see the tendency for temperatures to start to stay around 20 degrees.
