On Saturday evening, the police lined up in Straumeveien to have speed control in the 60 zone.

At 2343 a car came whizzing through the checkpoint at 111 kilometers per hour, according to the police meter. The patrol signaled the driver to stop, but, according to the police, he did not let off the gas.

– He ran away, and the police followed, says police chief Kjetil Hoff at Bergen West police station.

Hoff describes the whole thing as a dangerous journey. Among other things, the driver is said to have driven in the opposite lane to get away from the police.

The driving pattern became so dangerous that the patrol finally had to end the pursuit.

Don’t run away

The reckless driver thus got away at first, but later that night he was found again by the police.

– He was found with the help of other investigative steps, says Hoff.

According to the police chief, the driver was a young man. It does not appear in the police log where the police found him.

The result of the risky driving was the suspension of the driver’s license and notification.

– Both because of speed, that he ran away, and that he was driving in the opposite lane.

– Great danger moment

Hoff takes the incident very seriously.

– Driving at 111 kilometers per hour in the 60 zone is serious in itself. When you then fail to stop from the police, who are also trying to follow you, it is very serious. And when you also drive in the oncoming lane, there is an extra big danger, he says, and continues:

– The whole must be said to be very irresponsible. That is why the police also call off the pursuit, because we believe it is so dangerous that we do not want to pressure the person unnecessarily.

The most important thing, Hoff believes, is that drivers with this type of driving behavior are stopped.
