Many have feared queue chaos on the roads when it is forbidden on Monday morning for electric cars to drive in the public transport lanes in Oslo and Akershus.

So far, things are going well on the roads, reports traffic operator Hans Are Dahl in the Vegtrafikksentralen east to VG.

– So far it’s going well, says Dahl and continues:

– There is quite a queue past Asker past Sandvika. On the E6 north it is going well and on the E6 from the south there is some traffic, but not much more than normal.

If you break the ban, you can expect a hefty fine of NOK 8,200. But just today, you might get away with a warning.

– It could be that you guide and give warnings, and that you then give fines later, says operations manager Kjetil Ringseth in the East police district to NTB.

The Norwegian Public Roads Administration has introduced a temporary ban on electric cars being allowed to use public transport lanes in Oslo and Akershus.

The ban is one of several measures to limit private car traffic when ring 1 is closed due to the reconstruction of the Hammersborg Tunnel.

The road is closed for three years, and the electric car ban applies as long as the road is closed.

Oslo municipality has introduced the same ban on its roads.
