On Sunday morning, there was activity on the live broadcast from a secret location in Norway.
A box worth one million kroner was placed in the forest by the Bergen company Horde, so that people could hunt for it. Throughout the week, small hints were shared with the participants, which brought people ever closer.
The secret location this year turned out to be near the silver mines in Kongsberg.
Unnerving
In the course of the morning, the cash box was found by several people. Then it remained to see who was able to solve the code challenge.
Horde boss Alf Gunnar Andersen was himself present to ensure that the competition went properly.
– It was incredibly exciting!
To ensure a fair solution, those present were given five minutes each to try, in order of who came up first.
Andersen says that there was a very good atmosphere at the place, and that they grilled sausages and drank coffee along the way.
Took it in stride
A number of people quickly got down to business and spent their time without success. The winner, on the other hand, waited and conferred with good helpers over the phone. Only when the code was worked out did he strike and use his time slot.
– He was actually the third to come here, but the fact that he kept his composure and waited for his turn I think was the key, says Andersen and adds that the winner was naturally delighted with the victory.
Initially, there was cash in the box when Horde started its stunt last year, but eventually it was considered that this could pose a security risk to the winner. Thus, the cash was replaced with a symbolic note and subsequent money transfer.
