The carriages for the Fornebubanen will be NOK 350 million more expensive. – Greater Oslo

--

20 new subway trains must be in place when the Fornebubanen opens in 2029.

They will be NOK 350 million more expensive than expected.

The wagons should cost just under NOK 3 billion: In addition, a buffer of around half a billion has been set aside.

Sporveien has now negotiated with suppliers. And can state that the carts will be more expensive.

3.2 billion

Therefore, they are asking the city council to use NOK 350 million from the buffer. The price of the 20 wagons is thus up to NOK 3.2 billion.

The tramway is due to higher interest rates than initially assumed and a weaker krone exchange rate compared to the euro.

There is nothing to indicate that the entire buffer is bursting, according to Sporveien.

20 ARE NEEDED: And even more must be in place if people further east are also to enjoy the Fornebubanen.

The city council agrees to an increased price tag. Strictly speaking, they have no choice:

– The acquisition of 20 carriages is necessary to be able to put the Fornebubanen into operation as planned in 2029, writes transport councilor Marit Kristine Vea (V) in the decision.

No money for more

20 carriages are what is needed to operate the Fornebubanen itself.

But the goal is that travelers further east will also enjoy increased subway capacity.

The city council is authorized to buy up to nine more sets of carriages, bringing the total to 29.

In that case, the total price will be NOK 4 billion.

There is currently no money for the extra nine.

They must be provided in the negotiations on Oslo Package 3, which are still ongoing.

– Up to 29 new carriages will be able to provide increased capacity and robustness in the subway system, especially with strengthened service all the way to Vestli on the Grorudbanen, writes Marit Vea.

She states that work is being done to find room for at least seven of the nine extra carriages.

Majorstuen station

They have already received an additional challenge in that the government removed half a billion kroner for the new Majorstuen station in the National Transport Plan.

An upgraded station is needed to get trains through quickly and efficiently.

At the top of the pitch

The purchase of carriages and the conversion comes in addition to the price of the Fornebubanen itself.

That alone can exceed NOK 30 billion.

Including wage and price growth during the entire construction period, the estimate is NOK 27.6 billion without a buffer, NOK 31.3 billion with a buffer.

However, these figures are uncertain.

Fornebubanen informs NRK that so far they are staying within both budget and schedule.
