Qualifications

The person hired must fulfill the requirement for admission to the faculty’s PhD programme, cf. § 8 of the PhD regulations at UiT.

The position requires the degree cand.jur. or a five-year master’s degree in law with good grades. The faculty can approve equivalent foreign education in jurisprudence as a basis for appointment.

Applicants who have an average of B or equivalent in the master’s program (including the master’s thesis) are normally qualified for the position unless the project description is obviously deficient. For candidates who do not have a B average, the assessment becomes more complex. Here, it must be assessed whether any previously published works, progression in character development, major master’s thesis and results thereof, can compensate for the lack of a B average. In the same way, emphasis can be placed on whether the applicant has an experience background that is of particular importance for the implementation of the project.

The appointed person must have the necessary professional qualifications to teach the compulsory part of the 5-year master’s program (1st-4th department), including sufficient knowledge of the Norwegian/Scandinavian language and knowledge of the Norwegian legal system.

An academically justified description of the doctoral project must be submitted. The description, which should be 5-8 pages, must contain an overview of the theme and main and subproblems for the project and a professional justification for these choices. Furthermore, it must show the methods to be used. The description should also contain assessments of affiliation with the faculty’s research groups/NCLOS. Applicants may be asked to elaborate on the description later in the hiring process.

In the assessment, we will also emphasize personal suitability and motivation for the position.

As many as possible should be given the opportunity to complete research training. If you have already obtained a doctorate or have equivalent competence, you are not eligible for employment in this position.

Inclusive working life and diversity

UiT Norway’s Arctic University has a personnel policy goal of being an employer that reflects the diversity in society and that makes use of the potential of the population’s overall competence. We believe that inclusion and diversity is a strength and want employees with different skills, subject combinations, life experience and perspectives.
