This is where the laser thief appears!

--

Yes, a lot happened at once when UP was lying in the bushes with a laser meter at Romerike last week.

It starts with the UP officers trying to flag down a motorist who had been driving too fast, but the motorist had no plans to stop. The driver put the clamp on and disappeared down the road while the officers climbed into the car and lay down on the wheels.

But the rough driver disappeared into the Romerikskvelden and the patrol car had to turn the “snout” back to the checkpoint.

It was Romerikes Blad who first wrote about this case.

The incident took place on Thursday evening at 7pm last week on Nedre Rælingsvei, between Rælingen and Lillestrøm.

When the patrol returned to the checkpoint they got a rare surprise.

– When the patrol returned after quite a short time, the laser was gone from the roadside, says Geir Morten Bjerkvold, assistant district manager UP East to VG.

He says that the officers came into contact with a witness who had seen a man stop the car and steal the laser.

And, the witness took a picture of the thief and his car. The police therefore had the thief’s registration number and tracked down the man at an address on Romerike.

– I think this is quite unique. I have not heard of anyone who has stolen a laser meter before, says Bjerkvold.

– Thrown into the lake

The suspected laser thief was approached and his house was searched without finding the laser.

– He admitted to having taken the laser, but said he had thrown it into a nearby lake, says the senior officer.

The man showed the place, but it was too dark for them to look for it.

This week, the matter took yet another turn.

On Tuesday, the laser thief appears at the police station with the laser speedometer in hand.

He had fished the laser device out of the water himself, and the repentant sinner would return it.

– Lays to dry

– What condition is the device in after being in water?

– It is uncertain. The laser is dry, says Bjerkvold briefly.

He says the theft had no practical consequences for UP, which had an extra device.

– The big question is, of course why he stole the laser?

– Well, it’s not good to say. The area of use is narrow. At least in civilian life, says Bjerkvold.

A criminal case has been opened into the matter and, according to RB, the Romeriksman has been charged with obstructing a public official, theft and damage. RB writes that they have been in contact with the accused, who claims he has no knowledge of the case.
