Before Easter, a delegation from Bjørnafjorden Frp Fusa secondary school visited to discuss the proposal from the administration in Vestland county municipality to discontinue the offer of TAF/YSK lines at the school. The TAF/YSK model is a four-year course of study that leads the student to both study competence and a vocational certificate.

Since 2001, Fusa secondary school has been a preparatory school for this popular educational course, and currently offers courses in Technology and Industry, Marine, Health and Restaurant and Food.

This is specialist expertise that is in high demand by the business community in Bjørnafjorden, for example from Framo, the aquaculture industry, the hotel industry and the care services in the municipality. Business also offers apprenticeships in the last two years of the education, and a close collaboration has been established between a number of businesses and Fusa vgs. This collaboration takes time to build up, while it can quickly be torn down if the TAF/YSK offer falls away.

The cost of a four-year study course is naturally somewhat higher than for a traditional further student with three years of study, and this is probably the main reason why the administration in Vestland County Municipality will now discontinue the offer.

The Bjørnafjorden Frp still thinks this is completely wrong. The advantages of the TAF/YSK model are many and far greater than the cost – there are motivated students who are well served, they often go on to higher education, they are dedicated and have a close relationship with school subjects, working life and work. In short, such employees are what the business world is in demand for. And we also need a vocational course of study for students who wish to secure general study skills for possible later higher education.

Delegation: The delegation from Bjørnafjorden Frp included the former municipal board representatives Rolf Andre Kjærstad and Marianne Hjelle, group leader Gustav Bahus and deputy representative Arlid Ernst Legland. In addition, mayor Terje Søviknes stood.

We therefore hope that businesses, business organizations and municipalities in the region will get involved in the consultation period we are now presenting. Here it is important that we jointly stand up for a good educational offer for our young people, and thereby ensure well-qualified labor for the future.

We would also like to thank the principal at Fusa preschool, Inger-Elin Epland, and her staff for good presentations during the visit, and at the same time encourage all other local parties to visit the school in the coming consultation period.
