Youth crime is skyrocketing in Bergen South. The development has been excused with everything from densification to a lack of leisure activities. But rather than talking about the reasons for the development, the politicians should focus on stopping the development.

Because let’s be honest, there is no shortage of leisure activities in Bergen Sør. There are 11 pitches, indoor halls, hiking trails and other fun such as a golf and athletics course. The excuses for people becoming criminals do not hold. That is why Fremskrittspartiet’s Youth believes that people must take responsibility for their own actions.

Three simple measures

As you read at the beginning, there are solutions to the problem. You will now be presented with the FrP’s three most important measures to combat youth crime.

1: Lower the criminal minimum age to 14, and open the use of unconditional prison sentences for offenders under 18.

Today, young people who commit criminal acts are not punished for it. If you are old enough to commit serious crimes, you are also old enough to take your punishment.

2: Make the parents responsible.

Parents have the responsibility of raising their children. If your child does something criminal, the parents should be liable for compensation by paying for the children’s destruction. The fines should of course be sky-high.

3: Give the police enough resources.

The police do not have enough resources to solve all the cases they should solve. The government can start by cutting state aid, fine culture and green subsidies. Part of the money must be used to make the streets safe here at home.

When the vast majority of young people have never done anything criminal in their entire lives, it is a clear sign that there is no reason to be a criminal in Fana. If you harm society, you must take the consequences. We are not in the business of letting criminals go free.

Bergen City Council is working to prevent youth crime, including by employing more environmental workers in schools. Admittedly, the major changes mentioned above cannot be resolved at municipal level. The government must start prioritizing the most important thing, namely safety in our streets.
