Latest: At 07.25, Bane Nor states that the Bergen Line has been opened to traffic, but that passengers still have to deal with delays.

At 01:47 on the night of Friday, Bane Nor reported that the Bergen Railway was closed after an avalanche at Klevavatnet. This led to passengers being trapped on the train. It wasn’t until 07.25 that the train started again.

According to Bane Nor, there was demanding clean-up work going on and it would take time to clear the section. According to press officer Harry Korslund, it will take time to clean up as a result of the bad weather in the area.

There were no trains in the area when the slide occurred.

VG has been in contact with one of the passengers on board the stopped train. He left Oslo at 4.30pm and was still stuck at Myrdal Station when the newspaper spoke to him at 5am on Monday morning.

Highway closed

There have also been two snowstorms on Riksvei 13 in Ullensvang on the night of Friday.

Vegtrafikksentralen West first stated that a new assessment would be made on Friday morning, but in an update just before 4 o’clock they wrote that the road would probably be closed until Saturday due to the weather forecast.

The police have called in several volunteers from the Red Cross and other organisations. On the night of Friday, it was not safe to enter the avalanche area. According to the police, there is little indication that anyone was caught in the landslide, but it cannot be ruled out.

There is also a risk of more landslides in the area.

Mountain passes closed

On Friday morning, most of the mountain passes in southern Norway are closed or have queues as a result of the storm.

These crossings are closed:

  • Highway 7 over Hardangervidda
  • Highway 13 Vikafjell
  • County road 50 Aurland-Hol
  • County road 53 Tyin-Årdal

National highway 52 over Hemsedalsfjellet has a convoy, while E134 Haukelifjell, E16 Filefjell and national highway 15 Strynefjell are all open to traffic.

Forecast snow chaos in Oslo

According to Telemarksavisa, the police encourage those who have the opportunity to work from home on Friday. In Telemark, there have been several traffic accidents throughout the county on Thursday evening.

On Friday, a lot of snow has also been forecast in Eastern Norway. Collective company Ruter asks travelers to allow plenty of time when going out into traffic.

The Norwegian Meteorological Institute has issued a yellow warning about snow in Oslo and Viken.

– We therefore ask those who are going out and traveling by public transport to allow extra time. There may be major operational disruptions with full and partial disruptions in public transport, writes Ruter in a press release.

Queues have piled up on the E18 at Asker in the direction of Oslo after a car ended up on its roof. E18 was closed for a short period, and now the traffic passes in a field. There was only one person in the car and he appears unharmed.

Otherwise, it looks like there are not too many delays in and around the capital on Friday morning, according to the National Road Administration’s reisetider.no.
