Ane Dahl Torp in Swedish gang portrayal, which is the world’s third most watched Netflix series

The series was created by the same team that was behind “Størst av alt”, the first Swedish Netflix series directed by Norwegian Per-Olav Sørensen.

This time it is Anna Zackrisson who directs the depiction of a tragic gang shooting – where one child shoots another. “In your hands”, like “Størst av alt”, is based on a novel by Malin Persson Giolito, according to SVT.

More expensive subscription to new streaming service

Now the Netflix series may be on its way to taking over the throne from the “Baby Reindeer” success as the most watched. It tops in Sweden, and since its premiere on 24 April has climbed to third place globally.

Norwegian music

The music for “I dine hender”, which has the English title “Deliver Me”, was written by Norwegian Rebekka Karijord. She has ventured as a film composer in addition to her artistic career, and among other things was responsible for the music for Margreth Olin’s cinema documentary “Fedrelandet” last year.

“In your hands” takes place in the fictional Swedish suburb of Våringe. There, Swedish Douglas – Dogge – and Somali Bilal – called Billy – grow up in two different worlds. Great Dane in a dysfunctional family in a nice house – where the apathetic mother is played by Ane Dahl Torp. Billy surrounded by loving people in a cramped block of flats.

The little boys become best friends, and at the same time are drawn towards criminal activity. It ends horribly, something that happens early in the series, which then unravels why it turned out that way.

Happier times: Douglas and Bilal, alias Dogge and Billy, become friends as little boys – despite coming from different worlds. They are played by Olle Strand and Yasir Hassan.

– The hand on the trigger is a sad hand

– “In your hands” claims that the hand on the trigger is a sad hand, and reminds us that all these shooting and shot children we read about are also human, says SVT reviewer Kim Veerabuthroo Nordberg.

When Malin Persson Giolito was interviewed by NTB about the book when it was published here in 2022, she said that “the most incomprehensible thing is how children can end up in these situations. How can we let them end up there?”.
